Inspired by light and colour
My artistic journey began with a deep love for playing with light and colour. Whether I'm painting seascapes or other subjects, I always find myself drawn back to the vibrant hues of the ocean and the unique beachside foliage that thrives in our coastal suburbs. These natural elements, including the colourful lorikeets that inhabit our area, continuously inspire my work.
From concept to creation
My creative process usually begins with choosing and laying down the background. This sets the tone for the piece. Often, I'll sketch ideas for shape and form in my notebook, developing particular concepts. After these initial studies, I transfer my vision to the canvas, bringing these ideas to life with layers of colour and texture.
Tools of the trade: Creating vivid colours
To achieve those brilliant, vivid colours, I rely on a selection of cherished tools. I have several favourite brushes: some for intricate details and others for broad strokes that define the initial forms. I also love using my palette knives to add texture and depth. Sometimes, I'll even use a sponge, paper towel, or a wet wipe to create beautiful blurred or softened effects, adding unique character to each piece.
